We’re all worried about our summer holidays this year. Trips abroad are looking uncertain with overseas travel restrictions currently still in place. There’s also the query as to whether the 14-day quarantine period will remain.
However it is not all doom and gloom – the government confirmed recently that that they are hoping that we will be able to take summer holidays in the UK in July and August. So now is the time to fall back in love with the great British summer and plan a staycation. What’s more there are many places where the pooch can join in too.
You need to act fast if you’re considering a staycation this year. Many places have already been booked up and hotels might have reduced capacity as they plan towards social distancing. Before you break into a panic that you’ve missed the boat our virtual assistants love booking holiday travel and are experienced at seeking those places not always advertised through the normal holiday channels.
We can research where to stay, where to play, the cool places to hang out and the off the beaten track treasures away from the crowds. Who knows what pubs, cafes and restaurants will look like in a few months time so we can source the hip places to eat with alfresco dining. If you’re thinking of waiting and making for a last minute dash you could be disappointed.
There are already signs of things beginning to move forward. The National Trust has reopened some car parks in England. Pubs, restaurants, hotels and B&Bs may be able to reopen in some form from early July and it seems likely that restrictions on camping, caravanning, and holiday cottages will be relaxed in some way also.
Love England In The Summer
You don’t have to jet off around the world to experience that holiday feeling. The UK has magnificent golden beaches, luscious golf courses and stunning vistas that seem to stretch on for miles. It often gets overlooked as a destination due to the unpredictable weather but when the sun shines why would you want to be anywhere else.
As holidays are going to be different this year it is important to choose locations that facilitate social distancing and offer a choice of outside places to enjoy. The weather is a lottery in the UK. You can be slapping the sun cream on by the pool in the morning and shivering in a cagoule under an umbrella by lunchtime. Be prepared – choose places where there are things to do if and when the rain clouds appear.
So here’s a selection of the best staycations ideas this summer – all in good ol’ Blighty.
Under Cover
Whether you’re a seasoned camper or like a little pre-pitched luxury the world of camping (or glamping) has exploded. You can choose to pitch your own tent and wriggle around in sleeping bag or plump for a night in a yurt, including a king sized bed. Not smitten yet? Then consider a shepherds hut, an ecopod, a Winnebago or hang out in an iconic retro Airstream with its own private hot tub.
Let’s Go Fly A Kite
The Witterings in West Sussex are often referred to as ‘The Hamptons’ of England.
West Wittering is a popular beach destination renowned for its sand dunes and miles of sandy beaches at low tide. It is a great area for kite surfing. If you’re looking to take up this sport the shallow, tidal lagoon is an idea place to learn. You won’t be making a break for France just yet!

It’s possible to rent Hampton style houses with vistas over the beach.
There are other spots in the UK that provide equally good conditions for those that dare.
Let’s Get Hooked
Scotland’s rugged beauty is breathtaking and provides copious opportunities to immerse oneself in the stunning wilderness. Prolific salmon rivers make the Highlands one of the most exciting salmon fishing destinations. The bountiful lochs offer some of the finest brown trout fishing. You won’t have to worry about the neighbours in a lodge that sit in 23,000 acres! When you’ve discarded the waders there is plenty to keep you entertained: guided hikes, 4×4 tours, deer stalking, clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking and wild swimming. If you’re keen to explore we can arrange for you to visit The Orkneys or the Isle of Skye via helicopter.
There over 300 different species of fish being found in coastal waters around the British Isles. Deep sea fishing is one of the most relaxing, exciting and invigorating ways to spend your holiday. Out in the open water, miles from land where time stands still and the air seems fresher.
It’s Tee-Time
The United Kingdom is blessed with some of the most breathtaking golf courses in the world. We can find tough and technical, quirky, best for beginners or ones that offer the most spectacular views. The sporting life can be a great way to enjoy the great British outdoors. A hotel that offers tennis courts and coaching, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, squash courts, a spa and the sea nearby will ensure that there is plenty to keep the troops occupied.
The Cornish Caribbean

These cluster of rocky islands, five that are inhabited, need to be on everyone’s bucket list. Azure sea, white sandy beaches, sub-tropical gardens and dramatic rock coves are only 28 miles from Lands End. On a sunny day they could be mistaken for the Caribbean. Expect to find a slower pace of life: sailing, walking, kayaking, cycling, tennis, golf, wine tasting in the vineyards and enjoying the beach life are all on the itinerary.
A life On The Ocean Wave
Bare boat charter puts you in charge of your destination. From the magnificent views of the Needles to the smuggler’s creeks depicted in many Daphne du Maurier novels there is some stunning coastline to explore.
Surfs up

It might not have quite the allure of Bondi Beach but there is around 20,000 miles of coastline peppered with world-class surf. Britain is actually an excellent place to get started. There are some outstanding lesser known spots – the isle of Lewis and Harris thanks to its exposed location on the eastern edge of the Atlantic. Crowds are not an issue and the water is not as cold you as you’d expect. The Gulf Stream can warm it to a toasty 16C in the autumn. Head through Scotland, North Yorkshire, Pembrokeshire, the Gower Peninsular and down into Devon and Cornwall – you are spoilt for choice.
This summer could be the year to nail the board! Whether you’re looking for the next reef break, looking to take your skill level up a notch or are venturing into the salt for the first time – all bases are covered. We can find the conditions or tuition to suit your level and find you a place to lay your hat to enjoy the après surf.
Saddle Up
Horse riding holidays where you won’t end up knee deep in horse manure. Whether you are looking to get back in the saddle, fancy learning to ride western style, want to gallop across the South Downs or explore stately homes on horseback there is plenty of choice. We can arrange holidays where you take your horse with you if you are keen to take them too.
